Welcome to Week 5 of the 2017 Eliminator Challenge. To determine the best picks each week, I lean heavily upon ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI). For more on how FPI is calculated, click here and here. I also look at the pick percentages for each NFL team on the ESPN Eliminator Challenge page to see which teams the majority of fans are picking.
The past two weeks saw over 62 percent of entries get knocked out, and this week will not be any easier. Four of FPI’s five worst teams in the NFL play against each other, and that doesn’t even include the contest between the winless Chargers and Giants. Only four teams have over a 70 percent chance to win, according to FPI, which is the second fewest in any remaining week this season, trailing only Week 9. And for the first time since Week 1, no team is at least an 80 percent favorite.
What has gone right: Two of Arizona’s oldest players — quarterback Carson Palmer (37) and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (34) — are successfully fighting Father Time. The duo combined for the game-winning touchdown pass in last Sunday’s 18-15 overtime win over San Francisco.
What has gone wrong: Arizona’s offensive attack suffered a huge blow when running back David Johnson was lost until late in the season with a dislocated wrist. Injuries also have decimated the offensive line, which has led to Palmer getting sacked a league-high 17 Nate Allen Womens Jersey times.
What’s next: The Cardinals have won both their games in overtime against Authentic Tom Rathman Jersey opponents (San Francisco and Indianapolis) that are a combined 1-7. A ton of improvement is needed prior to a pivotal three-game stretch against NFC West foes, starting in Week 7 against Los Angeles.
